Tax details and VAT numbers
Tax laws ask a marketplace to know who its sellers are, so Plukio keeps your tax details: who sells on your shop in law, where, and any tax numbers you have. Buyers never see them, unless you choose to show your tax number on receipts.
A new shop can't be sent for review until its tax details are saved. If your shop is already open, your dashboard asks you to Add your tax details.
Add or change your tax details
- Go to your shop settings and find the Tax details card.
- Under You sell as, choose An individual or A business.
- Fill in your name: your first and last name, or your registered business name. A trading name is optional. If you sell as an individual, also say how you sell: Selling is my business, or I sell now and then, as a private person.
- Add your address and Where you run the business from.
- Add any tax and registration numbers you have.
- Tick These details are true, and I agree to the Seller Terms., then choose Save tax details.
The card then says On file, with the date you last saved. Each save is kept as a new version, so you tick the box again every time you change something. Keep your details up to date when something changes.
Note
Tax details are on the web only. The Plukio app opens the web page for them.
Which numbers can I add?
The card offers the numbers your shop's country issues, and Another tax number for anything else. For example:
- EU countries: VAT number and Business registration number.
- United Kingdom: VAT number and Company number.
- United States: EIN, State sales tax permit and Business registration number. You can also list the states where you keep people or stock.
- Canada: GST/HST number (your BN with RT), QST number and Business registration number.
- Australia: ABN. New Zealand: GST number and NZBN.
All numbers are optional.
How EU VAT numbers are checked
When you save an EU VAT number, we check it with the EU's VIES register. Under the number, the card shows what VIES said:
- "Being checked with the EU's VIES register"
- "Valid in the EU's VIES register"
- "The EU's VIES register says this number isn't valid"
- "VIES wouldn't check this number"
We check it again from time to time. Other numbers say "Kept as you gave it": we keep them, but there's no register we can check them with.
Show your tax number on receipts
If you've added a VAT, GST or similar number, the card has a Show my tax number on receipts switch. Buyers' receipts will show your legal name, address and tax number. Receipts already sent keep what they showed.
Your tax details also appear on your fee statement.
