Variants: sizes, colors and other options
A variant is one option of a product that a buyer can choose, like "Large" or "Blue". Each variant has its own price, stock and SKU. A product can have up to 10.
Every product has at least one variant. A new product starts with one called "Default", priced at the price you entered when you created it.
Add a variant
- Open the product from Your products.
- In Pricing & stock, find the New variant row at the bottom.
- Enter its name, its Price and how many you have in Stock.
- Press Add variant.
Each variant is one name, so for a mug in two sizes and two colors you'd add four variants, like "Large, blue".
Change a variant
Every field in the variant's row saves when you leave it:
- Variant: the name buyers see.
- Price: in your shop's currency, above zero.
- Compare-at: an optional "was" price. It shows as a sale only when it's higher than the price. If you lower the compare-at or raise the price so the compare-at is no longer higher, the sale ends and we tell you.
- Stock: how many you have. Buyers can't buy more than this.
- SKU: your own stock code. Buyers don't need it, and it's optional.
On Your products you can also change a single-variant product's price and stock right in its row. For a product with several variants, press edit › in its stock column (on a phone, Edit 3 variants, with your number) to see them all.
Remove a variant
Press × at the end of the row. You can't remove the last variant, or a variant someone has ordered: its record stays with the order.
Note
Set stock in bulk editing skips products with more than one variant. Set those one at a time. See Editing in bulk and exporting a CSV.
